Understanding Image File Formats

 What is an Image?

An image is that which represents the true emotions in an instant moment. It is something that carries the true faculty of putting the capricious moments & it optimally stores such as flashes and displays. This is something that the image ordinarily do. In other words, we can utter it is the substantive representation of the external form of a personal thing or art.

Furthermore, an image is an artifact that depicts the visual perception and 2D (Two-dimensional) images that portray the concrete theme. Thus, the images do subsume the different dimensions as well. 1-Dimensional2-Dimensional, and 3-Dimensional images.  With such dimensions, the images hold the resolutions theme as well. The high-resolution and the low-resolution.

The categories subsume in these resolutions recommending DPI (dots per inch) and the PPI with (pixels per inch). On the web raster images, pixels applied with around 72x100 dpi only. If you are creating any raster image then the 100dpi value will hit the sweet spot of the image albeit only over the web.  

Remember one thing, if the image is encompassing around 100 dpi then it will make the image resolution more optimal or looking great on the screen. And also, this value of the image pixel increases the loading speed automatically.

Although the 100 dpi, is not good for the printing images. Yes, if you want to print something via dpi pixels then it would make your image blurry. Even, it drops the primary quality too.

For the printing process, the accurate value would be nearby 300 DPIs as it’s viewed as much density than the web displays. The value of 300 dpi pixels executes the images more whimsical for the web brochures printings. If you have selected between 2x3 inches the brochure size (logo), then 300 dpi is the desired dimensions for 2x3 inches logos.  

What are the Vector and Raster images?

There are two prototypes of images encountered in the imaging process primarily, the ‘Raster Image’ and secondarily the ‘Vector Image’. Look and grasp in the below section about such major prototypes.    

Vector Images- Vector images are included with the curves, dots, and lines or we can say it is a set grid of dots. The programs include in the vector images are "Adobe Illustrator and Coral Draw". You will get clearly through a vector image below.

Raster Images- Raster images are made of the set grid of dots called pixels. After zooming in the image it blurs the pixels. It holds the true pixilated even after zooming in. The programs include in the raster images are "Adobe Photoshop and GIMP".

What is Color Space?

Color space simply defines the range of colors. There are prevalent color spaces used in the images specifically in the imaging process. One should know the depth while creating an image with such color spaces. Look below the color spaces that we have provided you. They also determine the color range that you can use in.

There are two types of basic colors that used to elaborate the color models are RGB and sRGB. RGB goes with RED, GREEN, and BLUE and sRGB goes with the standard red, green and blue colors only to moderate more colors.

You know what, a single image is formed with the three color standards.

One image matrix = Red matrix+ Green matrix+ Blue Matrix.

Thus, a normal grayscale can be defined with the one matrix. Look below at the varied types of color spaces.

RGB- The color model used to describe what type of light demands to be released to produce a given color. Through this color model, there are many color spaces that are made.

HSV- It is represented as Hues, Saturation, Values. HSV is also a color mode that saturates, hues, and gives the values to the image. In this, the hue corresponds to the color components (base pigment), hence just by selecting a range of Hue you can select any color. (0-360). The saturation is the volume of a color unit of color (intensity of the pigment)(dominance of Hue) (0-100%) and lastly, the value is the brightness of the color. (0-100%). This is the brief details about the HSV image.

Binary Image- It is a digital image that contains the only two possible values in each of the pixels. In the binary image, the accurate pixel value is either 1 or 0. Which means only two can be applied i.e.

1= White and 0= Black.

Grayscale Image- And in a gray image, gray-scale or a gray value, the image assign with the value from 0 (black) to 255 (white). For each pixel of the gray-scale image if its value is lesser than the normal then we do usually assign such values of gray 0 (black) & 255 (white).

Image File Formats

JPG- It is a widely used flattened image format that used to flatten the images or we can say to compressed the images. It is mainly used in digital cameras, different operating systems, and on the internet. The images that are composed of digital cameras are used as JPG. It holds the two sub-formats as well named, JPG/EXIF. Such formats often used in digital cameras and in the other photographic types of equipment.

GIF- It stands for the graphics interchange format. mainly used in the web and can add or include a maximum of 256 colors. Gif used in LZW compression Algorithm. They are also usually used online to convey the reactions, illustrate or explain concepts or products in a fun, productive, and concise way, and also to create the whimsical GIF art.

TIF/TIFF- It is defined as the Tagged image file format. It is the major file format. TIF only supported black & white. This file format is used in the raster graphic images and other graphic images. Mainly, the TIFF format is commonly confused with its own descendent formats. It reduces the TIF file size but ain't reduces the quality of the image.

PNG- PNG is another image file format. It is defined as the “Portable Network Graphics”. It is an image type that's ordinarily used in web design only to provide a transparent background and/or a semi-transparent image.  

EPS- Eps is known for the "Encapsulated Postscript". An EPS is a file format that often used in vector graphics. Moreover, it is a standard images file format meant for setting files, images, and drawings in a postscript document. Several programs will save and transform the text and the vector artwork to EPS format subsuming; Coral Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Python (programming language), Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Adobe InDesign, and many more.
